high school dream

Postby bambooneedle » Sun Jan 11, 2004 7:40 am

I was back at school,
back in school uniform.
Back for the new year,
just orientating myself.
Felt good, felt strong,
if just a little stiff.

Simon and Philip (two cousins),
hanging together as always
similar aura of anticipation --
clean cut, breathing deep,
'cept with giddy nerves
scanning for old peer validation
...but this was really Simon's attitude.
In spite of insecurity usually,
Philip somehow had more dignity.
So in a time like now why shouldn't he
relish some cockiness?

So there they were...
at first sight I felt the old recognition,
but right after -- and I was ready --
Simon's face showed it all:
he hadn't gotten over that shit.
I was happy to know then
that I had to move on.
Hell, what did he know about her?
This year would be different.

Later, I ran into Dorrian.
One look acknowledged both
those comical public fractures,
and that always limited familiarity.
He'd sat nearby in Tech Drawing.
But I was seeing him now as a product
of all that had made him --
generations of family, of local standing;
I was new, I was adjusting;
now I understood.

very nice, boo. I like "comical public fractures" and the last 2 lines particularly.
Like me, the "g" is silent.

Thank you Moody. It was from a real dream, so there's no real order. I caught up with Simon again last year, after about 8 years.
