That sums it up for me as well. A really fun night.....but seeing Big Tears on the board and not having it played was kind of frustrating - the highlights for me were New Lace Sleeves, American Without Tears and Out of Time.......I could have done without Peter Wolf - but what are you going to do?

Steve was impressive - just watched the marriage proposal clip into PLU posted earlier here and I hadn't caught the "here comes the bride" deal he's playing on one of the insturmental breaks when it happened live.

There was a strong Get Happy feel to the show. Though they didn't play any songs from the record until the end, the background music to EC's banter/showboating had a Booker T & the MGs vibe - I'm sure they were playing Time is Tight half the time.......

Elvis Costello Helps West Hartford Man Propose to Girlfriend on Stage

Eric R. Danton SOUNDCHECK: Music News & Views

May 25, 2011

Well that's a bold thing: West Hartford resident Mike Youmans proposed to his girlfriend, Hilory Wagner of Glastonbury, last Friday on stage at an Elvis Costello concert in Boston.

Costello's set lists this tour are determined by fans spinning a wheel of fortune marked with songs from his catalog. Under the ruse of having been selected to give the wheel a whirl, Youmans brought Wagner on stage and, with an assist from Costello, popped the question.

"I always envisioned proposing to you in Paris," Youmans began, before Costello made him hunker down on one knee.

A tearful Wagner, who's also a singer and songwriter, said yes, which is pretty much the outcome you especially hope for when you're proposing in front of a few thousand people. As Wagner accepted a ring and an Eiffel Tower necklace from Youmans, Costello picked the next song by request: "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding," which Youmans suggested.

And what about that trip to Paris?

"Maybe the honeymoon," Wagner says by e-mail.

During the show, the only thing I minded about the proposal was the length of time it took. Now the public milking of it is actually beginning to piss me off.

It reads as if it was set up in advance.

Sulky - when you send me the recording can you edit that bit out for me.

It sure does read that way, and looking at the picture, it appears Mike has some sort of access patch stuck on his T shirt. And EC knew there was a marriage proposal coming when they came up on stage. I've got to stop thinking about this, it's giving me a gag reflex.

There's a recording?! Is it going to show up on Dime at some point?

As VG's chief supplier of bootlegs, he's just anticipating !! I've not heard of any source of this but who knows, perhaps EC will release a DVD only version with both the wedding proposal and his appearance at the matrimonial event!

It most definitely was prearranged as the groom to be posted on another thread that he had contacted EC's tour manager prior to the show and arrangements were made with EC's approval to have him 'randomly' brought onto the stage with his bride to be. Nice for them but its fifteen minutes should be over. It was not spontaneous in the least.
