I think we've talked about this before, but it might have been 2 boards back, cause I dont really remember it . . .

Anyways, I was wondering what songs you've misheard a lyric in and maybe didnt know the correct lyric for years and years.

Simple though the lyric was, I didnt know EC was singing "simple though love is" in I Cant Stand Up For Falling Down until an embarassingly short time ago. Instead, I always heard it as "superbowl lovers."

I always wondered what that meant . . .

I always thought that Elvis was singing "Never go further than far to far" in Living in Paradise.

I was disappointed to find out that it is "never go further than floor to floor."

My own personal "wash your ears out" mishearing moment was when I went to one of the Confederates shows at the Royal Albert Hall and EC did a solo spot. He decided to play a new song called (according to my ears anyway) "Any Cane Sugar". It took two years for Spike to come out before I realised what he was on about...

In case any of you have pity in that the Albert Hall is a big place, I was actually in the front row right in front of Elvis....

Well, since in what I assume is a bit of punk-era "listen to the songs, don't read 'em" aesthetic, EC issued NO lyrics sheets until Imperial Bedroom (and, on the original version, that was in the form of a single, almost unreadable, block paragraph printed on the inner sleeve), so there must have been thousands....Just can't remember any!

It's a line from the song that Charlie Sedarka sings, and it doesn't have to make sense on its own. It could be that Charlie's song makes no sense, which the preceding line implies, or maybe it does make sense but is misqouted here, which the "something about" allows for:

It was a song with a topical verse which I'm afraid he then proceeded to sing

Thanks. The line makes me think of a dress you'd have to be vigilant to wear, like a dress that laces up the back and is in constant danger of coming undone...I guess that would be kind of hot.

Here's my theory.....weird though it may be....

Birdseye (frozen food chain) claim to be the Fish Finger Kings - they have used this in their advertising. Charley Sedaka has a grey beard and an expanding waistline - he looks like Captain Birdseye. Simple.
Later he feeds off a dead monkeys hand and has a stare like Persian cat while eating stripping puppets on a liquid stick, pulling chewing gum out of his ears, sitting on a cloud at the North Pole and chucking gollywogs under the chin.

Spike eh? - he's not compared to Dylan for nothing - very strange Elvis indeed.
