Yeah, that acoustic has gotta be what John Lennon called the "Jumbo Gibson". (Don't know the model # offhand.)
That would be the guitar that created the feedback at the beginning of "I Feel Fine", as well as the signature riff.
(Was baffled for years at the sound the "electric" guitar got on "I Feel Fine", when fairly recently it came to light that it was an amplified acoustic -- as that model had built in pick-ups...)

Nope, the J 45 doesnt have the pickup like the one in that pic nor the tone/vol controls, it has a transducer pickup. Its either a Gibson or an Epiphone J-160E. Lennon used a Gibson J 160E acoustic and an Epiphone Casino electric among others.i thought it was a Gibson J-45

Yep, thats it in pic, George and John both got the same guitars at the same time, and were often unsure of who's was who's.
The Epiphone J 160E is the same guitar only built in Korea, so much cheaper.

From your description (and the link that was placed) you're definitely talking about the Jazzmaster but it's not an acoustic guitar. I don't have much knowledge about guitars but I know the difference between acoustic and electric guitars.! And to answer your original question, I don't think he used the Jazzmaster when I saw him last in May. He did have a splendid array but I'm almost 100% certain he didn't use the Jazzmaster. I would say 100% certain but there's always that niggling doubt!

okay, here's my take.
last summer, in the shows at Lincoln Center, Needle Time was SUPERB due to his guitar work. i didn't want it to end, i could have just spun out on it for the rest of the night. and trippy Dust, also really nice.
i did notice he added the slide goober at the show in boston on saturday (what do you call that metal tube? shiny silver thing. goober.), but when in the concert? can't recall.
and did i mention he was wearing the rhinestone boots again? i know, nothing to do w/ guitar playing - unless it adds confidence, which it just might do. sparkly things.
- and sweet pear? don't mind the occasional oddness. come visit here, we'll think it's normal.
