Elvis hype for Memphis in May music fest

Post by daybreaker »

Costello heads MIM Beale Fest lineup

"Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Elvis Costello and Phish frontman Trey Anastasio will be two of the headliners when Memphis in May announces its lineup for the 29th annual Beale Street Music Festival today...

Elvis Costello, who borrowed his first name from the Bluff City's resident King of Rock and Roll, will make his third local appearance in a year with his Beale Fest set. He played sold-out Hi-Tone shows in April, while making his recent album, The Delivery Man, in Oxford, Miss., and in September when he filmed a live DVD from the club."

Ellis: Beale Fest gets Hot in Herre

"From "Rocket 88" to "Air Force Ones," the 29th annual Beale Street Music Festival plans to embrace heritage and hipness like never before.

Announced on Thursday by parent organization Memphis in May, the lineup for the area's biggest yearly music event -- April 29-May 1 at Tom Lee Park -- hopes, as always, to have something for everyone. This time it actually does.

Headliners include rap titan Nelly, Trey Anastasio of Phish, popular roots-pop trio Los Lonely Boys, Lilith Fair queen Sarah McLachlan, Elvis Costello, Jack Johnson and the Roots...

When you can see local indie rock masters Bloodthirsty Lovers, R&B pioneer Turner, Costello and McLachlan on the same day, not to mention the same stage, what's to argue?"
