FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 26, 2005
ELVIS COSTELLO & THE IMPOSTERS TO TOUR UNITED STATES IN SPRING

COSTELLO RECEIVES 4 GRAMMY NOMINATIONS, INCLUDING 'THE DELIVERY MAN' (LOST HIGHWAY) FOR BEST ROCK ALBUM

Elvis Costello & The Imposters will tour the United States this spring. The tour will start in Orlando, Florida on March 2 and wind up at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee on May 1. Costello, currently on tour in Europe, received four Grammy nominations, including Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for "Monkey to Man" and Best Rock Album for 'The Delivery Man' (Lost Highway Records).

Costello originally unveiled 'The Delivery Man' with gigs in Memphis and at NYC's Lincoln Center last year. Of the Lincoln Center performances, which included a performance of Costello's first symphonic work, 'Il Sogno' (Deutsche Grammophon), NY Daily News' Isaac Guzman wrote, "[Costello] and the Imposters delivered a blistering set that comprised his best-known hits, a few rarities and a good chunk of new songs from ['The Delivery Man.']" The NY Times' Jon Pareles praised a set which saw the band "barreling through older songs... and let Mr. Costello roar and twang."

The new edition of 'The Delivery Man' also previews Costello's upcoming DVD with a clip from the track "Bedlam" recorded in Memphis this past September. Eagle Rock Entertainment will release the DVD.

cheer up, blue. just do your own little See The Real America (where the fuck is it?) Tour. if you hurry, you can see John Prine, too. But that's probably a little too much twang for you.

I'd like to see Prine at some point.

Hey, at least Glenn Tilbrook is playing here in April!

Mrs. MIGDD and I have tickets to the Tabernacle/Atlanta show and will be online at 10:00am on the 29th to vie for Grady Cole/Charlotte tickets as well! This will be the first time in 20 years that I have caught EC twice in a single tour! Anybody else going to either of these shows?

The Beale St. Music Festival can be a lot of fun, but it depends on what kind of lineup they get this year. Expect very large crowds and check the forecast before leaving. You wouldn't want rain on London's brilliant parade.

I'm seeing Glenn Tilbrook solo on Wednesday prior to my 3 night stint with Elvis (and two night stint with Muggy) the week after.

Just one night in NYC? Usually he does two. Oh well. Can't wait for tix to go on sale.

Anyone want to guess if Ray Nathanson shows up?

I think he has only done that twice, once 1993, when he was touring with the Brodsky Quartet, and last year during the very short North tour (of course his first shows on the tour were @ Town Hall, before he hit Japan and Europe).

The whole itinerary is stage, a week off in the middle, only one show in Los Angeles area, no shows in wifes homeland (sorry Blue). No shows in Boston, Philadelphia, and I always thought Minneapolis was one of his favorite cities.
Why are we racing to be so old?

EC is looking for a new audience - one without any preconceptions of or dispostions to his "earlier, angry albums". He's visiting cities he's passed over for many (25?) years and hitting many (including Charlotte, NC, thank you!!) that he has never visited before. NY and LA have seen EC on every tour since the beginning of time. Great as they are, they are not the only two towns in the country - welcome to the REAL USA, Mr Costello!!!!

PS - Hope he visits the REAL CANADA soon, too, BC!

Hey, I'd gladly drive out to Guelph, Ontario or someplace to see him. The closest U.S. show announced thus far is Ann Arbor, and even that is kind of far.

BC,

Pretty sure EC will add Labrador to his latest itinerary. What's the weather like there this time of year!
Extreme apologies to our friends north of the border!!

Hey - Keep the Faith!!! I'll bet EC won't ignore his new homeland one the US tour is over and done with!!!

I guess he was telling the truth when he said Delivery Man would be his 'South' album.

Elviscos1, you're right that EC doesn't ALWAYS play two dates in NYC, but he has done it more than twice. For example, when he toured with the Imps for WIWC he did two nights at the Beacon. (It was the second night he played Riot Act when -- of course -- I went to the first night -- see the thread about what songs you'd really like to hear.) Does the three night stint at Avery Fisher Hall count?

Plus, now that he lives here, I'd figure it would easy for him to just show up and play.

Oh well. See you on April 22nd.

No DC or Baltimore? I notice Boston is missing too and Philly although AC is close. I wonder if this is complete?

Sorry, Blue.

One advantage of living near NYC is that EC usually shows up. You'd think with a Canuck as a wife, he'd show up in your neighborhood, though.

You'd think with his mother living in Dublin he'd play here as well. Whatever, according to this he's from (New York NY) , so he's a New Yorker now.

Maybe if Elvis sets foot in Dublin the authorities are gonna put him in prison. Or maybe Cait has told him she "knows people".
