Elvis Costello will return to the Hi-Tone for two shows Sept. 17, said David Green, owner, promoter and talent buyer for the nightspot at 1913 Poplar.

Costello, who recorded his new album in Oxford, Miss., played several shows April 16-17 at the Hi-Tone. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, Costello is recognized as one of the most distinctive songwriters and performers in popular music.

Shows will be at 8:30 and 11 p.m. Tickets: $20 in advance; $25 at the door. No date has been set for ticket sales, said Green.

I can do this

Post by A rope leash »

I let him get away in April. It's only 200 miles. That's usually when I take a week's birthday vacation. I'm getting new Elvis for my birthday. I should do this.

Well, DrS has actually been wondering if Elvis might get in on the Ryman's $10 on the 10th. Now through December on the 10th of each month, a surprise artist will show up. You don't know who they will be but the tics are only $10, so you take your chances. Looks like the one for September has a clue on the Ryman website, but I can't make it out.

DrS just thought this was the kind of thing Elvis might do. But who knows.

I don't know if we can make that September date, but we'll look at the calendar and see. It seemed easier in the spring somehow. And even if I don't get to go to this one, it's already been a hell of a year so I really can't complain.

Memphis on the 17th, Austin on the 19th. Squeeze in Dallas on the 18th?
Hmmmm?

I can... The Notorious Cherry Bombs, which is a country "supergroup" featuring Vince Gill and Rodney Crowell.

Don't forget the recent ad for the October 6 concert in Glasgow, which said it would be the "only world show (except Memphis)."

Even though this obviously ignores the tours of Australia and Japan in November and December, it could be that Glasgow and Memphis were the only concerts scheduled within a few weeks of the album's release.

Of course, there's also the Austin City Limits Festival...

The rich keep getting richer...

Perhaps I'll see some familiar faces. If I hear anything about tickets, I'll post it.

And No Coffee Table: Thanks for identifying that for me. :) It does make me wonder who the others will be now.

When I reach 50, I hope I'll still be giving my second performance at 11pm.

Here's the deal.

Tickets will go on sale at the Hi Tone on Saturday, Sept. 4 at noon. $20 per ticket, 2 tickets per person limit. I've heard that they are planning to record a live CD and/or DVD at the shows.

Call (901) 278-8663 or check out the website at http://www.hitonememphis.com/calendar.htm for any further developments (the phone line is usually updated first).

Thanks for the info, Daybreaker!

Any word of an internet ticket sale for those of us hoping to travel in for the show?

I haven't heard anything about that. Did anyone on here actually get tickets via the website last time? Given the small number that were sold online, it would seem to me that you would have to be either a master of perfect timing or extremely lucky to actually get them before they sell out.

I managed to get tix online last time. Memphis is around a 4 hour drive for me and there's no way I'll be able to get tickets in person on such short notice. I sure hope there will be an online sale :(

The Hi-Tone website now posts the following information:

ELVIS COSTELLO & The Imposters
2 Shows at 8:30pm & 11pm
Tix On Sale 9/4/04 at Noon-$20-2 Tix Per Person

Wanna go, but we just bought tics to Munich for two weeks after. It's a lot to juggle with the kids this time.

Very glad I went in April, but much happiness to whoever can make this one. Rope? Go for it!
