Rank This Years Model

Post by King Hoarse »

Face the music: Rank the songs from This Years Model from best to worst (read: favourite - least favourite).

Face the facts: Radio Radio is on CD1 of the latest reissue, so it's IN. If you don’t rank ALL the songs that are on MY list (English & American versions) I will put in the missing numbers wherever I want. I’m the great dictator. It’s all so calculated. I have a calculator. I will (insert Rebel Rebel riff) return...with the results in a week or so.

1. Lipstick Vogue
2. This Year’s Girl
3. The Beat
4. Night Rally
5. Radio Radio
6. Pump It Up
7. No Action
8. Chelsea
9. Lip Service
10. Hand In Hand
11. You Belong To Me
12. Little Triggers
13. Living In Paradise

(I think Hand In Hand is a better song than Lip Service, but I really like the album version of the latter. I wish they would have played Hand In Hand and some of the other songs as fast they did live. You Belong To Me suffers the most from this, but it also applies to The Beat and Radio Radio. I'm glad my record player has a good pitcher!)

Bob and Charlotte

is Radio Radio no. 13 because it's burnt out, or just because you think it's shitty?

02 reasons:

because it´s burnt out and because its much worst than Lipstick Vogue (which is, at the moment, my least fave. TYM track)

Oh man, I wish you were here for the battle I had with Noise and co. about Lipstick Vogue.

I've loved it ever since though.

Between "Lipstick Vogue", "Beyond Belief" and "Love for Tender" for my favorite Elvis Costello song ever. While I feel that TYM is a masterpiece that defines the era of its release yet transcends time, I do not have a song that is even a close second to Lipstick Vogue.

I think that Elvis has a powerful affinity for the first two, because I have heard him play them both live in every show that I have attended (only 4 in total). He seems to genuinely enjoy playing these tunes. The audience reacts in kind.

I do not believe I have heard him play Love for Tender live.

I adore "Love for Tender".

Why is it battling for your favorite E.C. song?

*edit:
seems a little light-weight for such a title.

Haha, "Clean Money" is too speedy. It seems to me like the words flow a lot better in "Love For Tender".

jesus...why is Living In Paradise so low on all the lists??? Maybe I like it because it was one of the first EC songs I heard.....it was a minor hit in Southern California at the time of TYM's release!......I dig the way Elvis sings on the chorus.

1 The Beat
2 You Belong To Me
3 Lip Service
4 This Year's Girl
5 Little Triggers
6 Pump It Up
7 No Action
8 Hand In Hand
9 Living In Paradise
10 Radio Radio
11 (I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea
12 Lipstick Vogue
13 Night Rally

Really hard to rank this one. My list of favorites on this album changes from year to year. After "Spike", it was the second EC album I heard all the way through - believe it or not, on eight-track! "Living" was my favorite back then, because of the funny lyrics, funky opening and soulful chorus: "Here we are living in paradise (paradise!)" Now I think I prefer the outtake on the MAIT reissue.

Again, sorry I'm late. To be completely honest, I've tired of Radio, Pump and Chelsea over the years, but I can't rank them too low.

Better late than never, wardo68. I've modified the results to this and MAIT after your posts, as I will with any newcomers.
