Not quite as monumental as I had hoped, but quite a bit better than her earlier efforts in my humble opinion.

It's amusing hearing her tackle a Tom Waits song (I'm sure it must have been Elvis who suggested she do so :D )

Wow! I was pretty blown away listening to her rendition of Almost Blue. Diana is a great singer and fantastic pianist but I've not always been that excited about some of her material in the past. Can't wait to hear more of the new album now that she has some really great songs to wrap her voice around.

I thought it was a nice touch to have her thumbing through a book of sheet music and Oliver's Army is legible.

I like what she has done to the song vocally, but I like what Steve does with the piano work sooooo much more than Diana's piano player.

Umm...HolyCoat...Diana IS her 'piano player'.

BG, I did not know that is a piano player... Thanks for the info. The only thing I know about Diana is that she is married to EC.

I think I may need to buy the new CD. I liked the preview on that page. Anyone have any recommended listening for Diana???

'tis OK. I didn't know a thing about EC till he married DK, now I'm hooked

Here are some tracks I'd recommend (album titles in brackets)

Peel Me a Grape (Love Scenes)
You're Looking at Me (All For You / Nat King Cole Tribute Album )
Popsicle Toes (When I Look in Your Eyes)
My Love Is (Love Scenes)
Danny Boy (Tears of Stone - The Chieftains)
Hit That Jive Jack (All For You / Nat King Cole Tribute Album )
Devil May Care (Live in Paris album version)
A Case of You (Live in Paris)
I Love Being Here with You (Live in Paris album version)
I'm an Errand Girl for Rhythm (All For You / Nat King Cole Tribute Album )
42nd Street (instrumental) (Stepping Out)

Enjoy!

Oliver's Army needs to cover "Almost Blue."

Noise's attention to detail would make it great.

Will this become the definitive version of Almost Blue like he said?

I agree....it seems to me that it definitely suits her style of singing, but the way EC sings it has so much more emotion in it (it is his song I suppose).

When you listen to EC sing Almost Blue...you know it's a sad song. The DK version, although sung well, doesn't sound sad...no matter how much she writhes about on those pebbles.

Oliver's Army probably won't cover Almost Blue. Sadly, not everyone in the band digs it, and most of the venues we play balk at the quiet ones. Maybe one day.

Laughing Crow...

I agree that Elvis' version is, and always will be, best. Diana's spin is nice, but that lack of sadness could be an album thing. I often find that the studio tracks really don't do her any justice. Her live performances (this year especially) should give a better interpretation of the song. Or at least, I'm hoping. She'll prob do a nice solo piano rendition for the tour, heavy with mood. 8)

Almost Blue video

Post by John »

HolyCoatAndHat, after Oliver's Army you can just make out (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding from the pages of her book.
First shot in the video is of her wedding ring I assume.
On first listen it doesn't seem as good as Elvis' version but I guess we're all a little bit biased.
It was as much of the alphabet as I knew how to use.

I just listened to her version. It gives the line, "flirting with this disaster became me. ." a whole different meaning. I hope for you faithful Krall fans she does master the piano parts before her tour.
