Elvis Costello and the Attractions Radio Broadcast (Live)

Post by Man out of Time »

This digital-only release has rather been snuck out. Currently available here: Amazon UK (but not on Amazon.com). Elvis has been promoting tracks from this release via his YouTube channel. The videos are not (yet) available in the USA.

The track listing is as follows

1 Uncomplicated (Live) 8:50
2 What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding (Live) 3:22
3 I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down (Live) 3:04
4 I Want You (Live) 6:38
5 Jack Of All Parades (Live) 5:51
6 Just About Glad (Live) 3:51
7 All This Useless Beauty (Live) 4:57
8 Pump it Up (Live) 5:34
9 Clubland (Live) 7:03
10 Blue Chair (Live) 3:23
11 Accidents Will Happen (Live) 2:48

The listing on Amazon does not say where or when each track was recorded. From the videos that EC has shared, we have identified Just About Glad as being from the EC/SN box set recorded at The Fillmore, San Francisco May 15 1996 and broadcast on KFOG FM. Blue Chair seems to be from the BBC recording of EC & The A's live at the Royalty Theatre, London on November 23, 1986. This would mean it has never had an official release before, and is only available on bootlegs like "This Is Tomorrow". The Royalty Theatre Show was announced once (by Hip-O records) as a future release in the "Costello Show" series of live releases, but that never happened. Details are here: http://www.inanotherroom.com/latrt.html

If anyone fancies having a go at identifying where and when the other nine tracks were recorded (bearing in mind these appear to be taken from shows that had a radio broadcast) that would be great!

I can’t stand up is also from the Royalty. I can’t hear the others but would guess the Royalty show also accounts for the bulk of the other tracks (judging by a quick comparison of the quoted length against my original boot). All this useless beauty might be the odd one out:

1 Uncomplicated (Live) 8:50 (8:13 on This is tomorrow boot)
2 What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding (Live) 3:22 (3.28)
3 I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down (Live) 3:04 (same cut as This is tomorrow)
4 I Want You (Live) 6:38 (7:02)
5 Jack Of All Parades (Live) 5:51 (6:00)
6 Just About Glad (Live) 3:51 (1996 box set)
7 All This Useless Beauty (Live) 4:57 (?)
8 Pump it Up (Live) 5:34 ( not sure as boot combines PIU with Poor Napoleon)
9 Clubland (Live) 7:03 (7:12)
10 Blue Chair (Live) 3:23 (3:28)
11 Accidents Will Happen (Live) 2:48 (2:53)

This is released by the Vox Humana label.
It seems to be a Russian bootleg label.
Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.

Thanks SP. That is intriguing. There are four tracks from the compilation available on YouTube that appear to have been uploaded from the official Elvis Costello channel. But (as Dave Hyland on Costello-L has noted) these don't show up in any search of Elvis' feed and are not available to view in the USA. Which is odd.

Those tracks are:
Could it be that the pesky Russians have hacked EC's YouTube channel to promote their bootleg recordings? If so, I am sure EC's lawyers will be onto Amazon and YouTube pdq.
