Help my school win a video contest!
Hello all, As many of you know, I am a public school teacher in North Carolina. My school has entered a lip sync video contest sponsored by a local TV station and I am asking for my fellow EC fans to help us win. If you follow the link below, you can register to vote for us and then vote up to ten t...

Re: Getting stuff signed after show
I have also had good luck with EC (and SN) signing things. A prized possession is the EC/SN box set signed by both of them after their show at the Tower in Upper Darby, PA back in the late 90s. SN even signed a ticket stub the day after the show when I ran into him in a record store in Oxford, MS. D...

This Durham resident will be there and is open to a possible meet up downtown before the show.

Re: I'll Wear It Proudly
I've always thought the 'more than just my memory' was an indictment of an expected or imagined betrayal, seemingly casting the rest of the song back in time to a happier state of mind, almost as if Dec can't help but spoil his own love song, but this really doesn't work in terms of the song's titl...

Re: Recently viewed films
I loved Hugo . It was the best thing I've seen in ages. Scorsese's best since Goodfellas . Just got back from (finally) seeing it and I thought it was fantastic. It was the first 3D film I've seen (excepting a couple of '3D added later' films) and I thought it was amazing technology in the hands of...

Re: Spike... The height of Elvis' ?
This album was my entry point to EC, said entry being provided by the person who I then shared a seven year relationship with, so I can't listen to this album dispassionately in any way shape or form. I love it from top to bottom.

Re: Starting To Come to Me Interpretation
I always heard the connection musically to the Dylan song PD mentioned as well. Still, when listening to it in context it adds a little zip and fun in an album that has a lot of ballads.

Right, higher pitch means faster. Maybe the 'powers that be' wanted shorter videos? Very interesting and something I'd never noticed!

Agree with Unwanted Number. I've got a couple of live versions, but I've always longed for a proper EC studio recording. I also think Life Shrinks is a really great song.

Looks like Durham will be the tail end of the canceled shows. No worries waiting a few months to see the show though. Hoping for the best for EC and family.

I'm also partial to U2's later output. Achtung Baby is probably my favorite, but All That You Can't Leave Behind and No Line on the Horizon are probably 2 and 3 for me.

Re: What is the most disappointing concert you've been to?
Liz Phair at House of Blues in New Orleans in the early 2000s. I'm a huge fun of her first three albums and this was when she was trying to be Avril Lavigne or something. Lots of celeb name dropping and a dull performance. I walked before it was over. Urge Overkill from around the same time frame. T...

Re: Elvis Sings The Beatles
It's easy for me to pictures Elvis' voice on 'Sexy Sadie' and 'You Can't Do That'. I can also imagine a lovely multi-tracked EC version of 'Savoy Truffle' for some reason. And of course 'I Want You' could benefit from Elvis' particular tonality.

Re: "Suffering Face"
For many years the only version of Suffering Face I was familiar with was from the gorgeous boot 'Elvis goes to Paris and the Attractions don't'. This was during his melancholy tour that featured other uplifting numbers such as 'Having it All', 'Nothing at the End of the Rainbow', 'A Smiling Shore',...

Re: "They wanted facts, Facts!"
I thoroughly enjoy Christopher's critical appraisals of EC's work. On more than one occasion they have led me back to an album I hadn't listened to for awhile and allowed me to enjoy it again with 'new' ears. My point is one I would make not only to Christopher but to every news story, journalist, a...

Re: "They wanted facts, Facts!"
To be honest, the fact that this incident is even talked about any longer is a mystery to me. To wit: an early twenty-something says a naughty and offensive word in a drunken state- how is this news at all, and especially 30 years after the fact? It has become a rock and roll 'story' and really mean...

Re: 'Sparkling Day' by Elvis on soundtrack for 'One Day' Aug
Couldn't disagree more. I hate self-harmonizing and think it should be avoided at all costs - I'm not talking about EC in particular, but the technique in general. The texture of a harmony vocalist greatly enhances a record, and Costello has blended beautifully with Davey Faragher, Jenny Lewis, Jim...

Re: 'Sparkling Day' by Elvis on soundtrack for 'One Day' Aug
Very late to this party, but I quite like the track. It'll never make my top 40 EC tunes, but a nice change of pace from recent output. In fact, I like all of EC's film tracks to varying degrees:
My Mood Swings
God Give Me Strength
You Stole My Bell
She
I'm sure there are others too.

Re: 'Sparkling Day' by Elvis on soundtrack for 'One Day' Aug
That is quite often the case for soundtrack albums and the reason has to do with performer's contracts for being included. iTunes doesn't have control over those contracts, unfortunately.

Absolutely awesome. I'll be at the Durham show in September but I presume my balcony location will preclude me from being able to have this experience as well!
