Re: Michael Jackson RIP

Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson all in the space of just a couple of days. They say these things come in threes. Michael's story was a tragic one - I think all of the allegations against him, the general freakiness and the fact that he hadn't really contributed anything to pop music i...

Re: Relay For Life 2009

Under the risk of coming off as nepotistic, I should point out that Red has been working tirelessly as a volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society over the past two years. She'd love to work for them, but the reality is that they rely heavily on volunteers because they can only justify putting so ma...

Re: well, what do you think of

I like it a lot. I purposely sought out the vinyl this time and I'm glad I did, for the sake of "Femme Fatale" and "What Lewis Did Last." Surprised there was no download code in the package though!

Re: Jay Bennett R.I.P

This is extremely sad. Although Jay hasn't been a part of Wilco since Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, he was a pivotal part of the transition that took place between Being There, Summerteeth and that album. I doubt very much Wilco would have ever found their more cutting-edge sound without him.

Re: Best of 2009 -so far

Nice list. I haven't been overwhelmed by much yet this year, though I have high hopes for the new Elvis and Wilco records in June. So far I'd say my favourites of the year would have to be Neko Case's Middle Cyclone and Richard Swift's The Atlantic Ocean , but I know I have a lot more exploring to do.

Re: new Dylan

Shocker of the century: BlueChair is underwhelmed by a Bob Dylan record. It's not that I dislike it, I just don't find it to be particularly satisfying. "My Wife's Home Town" has got to be the worst Dylan "original" in years. If Dylan is going to lift entire blues songs note-for-...

Was hoping to pick up a few of the exclusive singles at Sonic Boom in Toronto, but I think I got there too late as they were mostly picked over.

Oh well, I'll be having my own personal Record Store Day on Saturday when I return to the Hollywood mecca of Amoeba Records.

Spectacle Season 2 - Dream Lineup

So I think we've discussed some of our "dream guests" before, should Elvis and the networks renew the series for a second season. But with twelve slots to fill, who would you like to see facing off with Elvis next season? Here's my dream lineup, comprised of people who Elvis has either exp...

Re: Beatles remasters

Great news as the CDs I have are crap in comparison to some stuff from the era that's been reissued. However, I wish these were SACD a la Dylan's back catalog. I fear that SACD is a dead format. Even the SACDs they had put out for Dylan are out of print, having been replaced with regular remastered...

Re: new Dylan

bobdylan.com has a free download of opener 'Beyond here Lies Nothing' right now on the home page, but only until 5am, 5.5 hours from now (I assume the time is UK time). Good sound. Nice ensemble, and nice inclusion of Hidalgo's accordion. As a friend said, guitar sounds like it's straight off 'down...
