Me too. Fat lot of good it did for that election! Also, that just means REM are old, not us!

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

In this day and age, EC's release date is probably less tied to whether the market is ripe and more tied to any tour plans Elvis has.

Re: What is your favorite Elvis Costello song ?

Like most of us I go through various phases, but the tune I keep coming back to for all of these years is 'You Tripped at Every Step'. To me it has everything: a fantastic melody, a very strong set of lyrics, a great performance, and a relatively rare moment of EC expressing sympathy along with some...

Try Chordie.com if you are looking for stuff that used to be on OLGA. It is very user friendly and for most songs you can even automatically transpose key.

Here's one kid's version in video with his written explanation and chords below. Seems pretty clear:

Re: Elvis to Perform at McCartney White House Tribute

Enjoyed EC's falsetto as he assayed the higher register of the chorus although overall thought the performance merely adequate-highlights for me were Corinne Bailey Rae's and Herbie Hancock's delicate rendition of "Blackbird", Emmylou's sensitive version of "For No One" and Dave...

I'm reading 'The Information' by Martin Amis, the first of his I've read. Thoroughly enjoying it so far as I love black comedy in literature. Some themes reminiscent of Murdoch's 'The Black Prince', but handled in a totally different way.

Re: When was your first Elvis gig?

I drove 13 hours from Spokane, WA to Berkeley, CA for the MLAR tour in June of 91. Sam Phillips was the support and the show (with the Rude 5) was great. I've seen him a dozen or so more times since then, most memorably at one of the Oxford, MS 'Club Dates' as he was recording TDM.

Re: New Gig Thread

I happened to be in Cleveland this past Sunday, preparing to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and I walked past the House of Blues only to discover Squeeze and Cheap Trick were playing that night. It was a wonderful show from both acts (75 min. sets each) although I missed Bun E Carlos on drums...

Got the chance to see them play live in Cleveland with Cheap Trick this past Sunday. Great show, great energy. Glenn and Chris both in good voice. Didn't realize until the show that I'd been standing with the bassist and keyboardist in the pub watching the World Cup final!

Ugh. I will now pull for Ghana and (gasp) England. After all, as a Brit friend of mine recently pointed out, the American Revolution was really just an English civil war.

I am just so happy that all of our British and Irish friends are able to see EC after such a long drought. I've been pretty spoiled, having seen him at least 6 or 7 times in the last few years. The voice live is a marvel.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Great album! I've been enjoying the first few days of summer 'curating' my iTunes collection. I have to admit that I am pretty anal about getting correct artwork, etc. for my music which can be time consuming. The upside: been listening to music pretty much constantly for a week. Currently really en...

Re: DALLAS Symphony program/setlist here 5-28/29, 2010

Jimmie Standing in the Rain (EC solo, not with orchestra) :| Well, wtf? This song would lend itself well to a bit of the ol' orchestration, I would think. EC usually sends the charts of the songs to the orchestras many months in advance. He probably hasn't done an orchestrated arrangement for this ...

Knocked a few more off of 'The List' and am really looking forward to summer when I can pick up the pace again. Just finished Edna O'Brien's 'In the Forest' which was beautifully written but thematically similar to the superior ,The Butcher Boy'. Also enjoyed Hardy's 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' whic...
