I said, "Keep doing what you're doing. An album a year is all we ask." That was in 2004.

Re: Elvis Costello retires from making albums....

When an artist signs a record contract and then doesn't release any material for a long period of time you can always assume that it is the record companies' decision (unless the artist is terminally ill or something like that). Good point, Pope, and a perspective I didn't consider. However, have w...

Re: Elvis Costello retires from making albums....

Yes, this isn't really anything new. He's pissed off that his new album didn't sell like hotcakes (except to everyone on this board who either ordered it directly via his website or snatched it up in the first record store they could find) and he says the industry can't support him. Just like it did...

I dread the ticket prices for this. I'd love to see the Philly show, since the Attractions (non-wheel) night there was the last of the 1986 tour, and my first EC show.

Re: What the story behind ATUB (Entire album) ?

Having been to one of the warm-up Beacon shows, I was very excited when this album finally came out. And I remained so for the first few weeks. Looking back, however, it seems a little anticlimactic. While I'm still more familiar with the ATUB songs than I am, say, those on WIWC, it seemed more of a...

Re: cover to cover

When I first got iTunes in 2005 I loaded up all the Elvis CDs to date, and burned the contents onto new discs in chronological order by recording date (as best as I could ascertain). I recently took the stack with me on a road trip, and I enjoyed hearing some of the stuff in a slightly different con...

Re: Reissue catalogue in a mess?

I felt like a real dope buying those Edsel boxes--they were a big expense for me at the time, and for very few tracks that I didn't already have (and even fewer that I really listen to all that much)--but now, years later, I sure am glad I have 'em. They are nifty. I have no regrets when it comes t...

Re: The Gibson Interview: Elvis Costello, Dec. '10

While I hate to disagree with Christopher...I disagree about the "this is my last album" thing. As long as record companies produce a physical entity that people have to touch with their hands (or whatever) to hear, there will still be albums. Vinyl is stronger than it's been in years. And...

Re: Mobile Fidelity to re-release Get Happy

Given my ignorance, what is the difference to the sound if it is half speed mastered? Here's a pretty good explanation: "Half speed mastering refers to the speed of mastering the original recording onto the master lacquer, which is then used to make the masters that press each LP. Many standar...

Outside of the Colbert song, the Chieftains song and "Winter Song", has EC ever performed any holiday-themed songs in concert? Considering all the covers he's plowed through over the years, if Xmas songs haven't figured so far I doubt they ever will. Of course, if he did do a Xmas album I'...

Review & pics: http://bit.ly/aQvpSm It irked me to see a comment from someone who boasted of being able to sit in the front row but was disappointed that she didn't know most of the songs, wishing he'd played more "hits". People have already taken her to task, and felt compelled to jo...
