Re: "Someone Else's Heart" - EC single for Record Store Day

Can anyone remind me which singles EC has so far released for Record Store Day? Can't seem to find a list anywhere online. I don't mean just this year, but in preceding years.

Re: Elvis plays Manchester Castlefields 2018

Agreed, Verbal - I think this means an Imposters album and tour. Yessss!!! Why assemble these scattered players for one gig only? Probably because Elvis' Mum's birthday is 11th July and he usually likes to find an excuse to come over for that. Plus the money will be good for what looks like being a...

Re: Elvis song taught at 'O'-level?

Does anyone remember the rumour that an Elvis song lyric was taught in English lessons in the early 1980s? Is it true, and if so, what was the song? I had a vague memory that it was (a) 'You'll Never Be a Man', (b) set by one of the Scottish examining boards; and (c) centred on the (admittedly stro...

Re: Green Shirt- extended mix from 1985

That's a really helpful summary Hawksmoor, many thanks. Can I just add that the Live DLMBM is probably the live track on the 12 " US promo from WNEW-FM. Meanwhile, 2 different versions of EIWTB appeared on 12 " in the UK with different running times. The first issue was on F Beat XX32 T a...

hi hawksmoor...with all the second, third and sixth copies on vinyl and or cd, the reissue upon reissues and just the general multitudes of copies in my home, i stayed away ENTIRELY from that release series. i recall it was three different boxes of 8 or 10 singles each. however, i thought it was st...

wasn't LET THEM ALL TALK and/or I WANNA BE LOVED given remix 12" treatments also??? I KNOW I have 12" versions of each. and A TOWN CALLED BIG NOTHING also had four versions I think. As was Everyday I Write the Book and The Only Flame in Town. As above, these have all been made commerciall...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Liverpool , July 11 2016

I'm intrigued why She only had one verse (although one verse is more than enough in my opinion. He introduced it by saying 'the band don't play on this one 'cos they hate it' and there was a bit of laughter all round. He then started 'She' on his own with just the guitar while all three Imposters r...

cwr... Don't know that there's an album that falls into that particular category for me, but I have experienced a lot of raised eyebrows over the years when I tell people that I think Brutal Youth is one of his very best albums, certainly his most underrated. I totally agree with you (about the LP ...

Aw, I love that! Although, objectively speaking, it probably does fall more into the 'guilty pleasures' category than the 'out-and-out classic' category!

The Stamping Ground.

It's just...dull, tuneless and lacking in interest of any kind. Which is something an Elvis Costello song should never be.

I'm not mad-keen on 'Broken' either. Beyond that, I honestly believe I can find something to enjoy in every other EC song.

I also thoroughly enjoyed my fourth Detour show but why oh why does the great man inflict " She " on us. It's passable on record and works well in the film " Notting a Hill " but such a dirge as an acoustic piece. But what do I know? It received the biggest cheer on the night af...

Re: Elvis at Paul McCartney concert, Vancouver, April 19

It’s a testament to McCartney’s longevity and phenomenal talent that, despite not having a hit record in years, he can elicit louder screams from a Vancouver audience than Justin Bieber did in the same venue in March. Agree with everything else in the review, and with the general tone of it, but th...

Got mine now, and watched it. Very enjoyable, although I do lament this seemingly ubiquitous practice of including four or five 'bonus tracks'. I don't understand in what sense they are supposed to be 'bonus', given that they appear on every edition of the DVD. I enjoyed them, mind, and I'm glad the...

Looks quite promising - there's quite a lot of tracks I'm not familiar with there, so that will be a good listen. A few ('Overachiever', 'She Used to Love Me a Lot') are things I've gotten into recently because of the EC connection, and they're fab, so yeah - looking forward to this.

I don't live in Llandudno now, but having spent the first twenty-five years of my life there, and about half of those dreaming that one day Elvis Costello would play in Llandudno, yes, I will be there. How could I not? :)
