And that's how you know the person writing the description doesn't really get it. See, what he meant was 'because this is a relatively long record at 15 songs...' :D

Have to say that this sort of familiar thing about not quite knowing what's happening is an old joy that's always brand new. Smoke and mirrors indeed. Very happy to be in this mess. Yeah, I share that thing about the tantalising excitement of knowing something is about to happen but not knowing the...

Re: New album Hey Clockface

Maybe it would have been called Clogland if it had been recorded in Holland! There's a project for a wet Bank Holiday afternoon. How many countries of the world has EC recorded in? Not counting bootlegs of gigs, obviously - countries in which he has recorded a studio recording that was then released?

Fantastic. A new Elvis Costello LP! This is, by a country mile, the best news I have heard since lockdown started, and I feel happy and excited in a way that I haven't for a long time. In more detail...we know that the Abbey Road sessions were pulled, so do we think this LP will be a mix of Helsinki...

Re: New song August 14, 2020: "We Are All Cowards Now"?

Assuming the Helsinki songs on their too? Hard to be sure. From the very brief bursts on Twitter, this one sounds like a Helsinki track. All three singles so far sound very different from 'Hey Clockface' - at least, as far as we can tell from the DIY Elvis-on-a-laptop version we have heard so far. ...

Re: New song ‘Hetty O’Hara Confidential’, July 10, 2020

I don't think Elvis and Weller were every really friends probably more to do with both of them being grumpy bastards. :D I think this is the bottom line! In my head, I'd see Weller accusing Costello as 'lacking soul' or some such, and Costello accusing Weller of being more into 'digging the groove'...

Re: New song ‘Hetty O’Hara Confidential’, July 10, 2020

Seriously, at 65 and 30-odd LPs down the line, nobody else is doing anything this inventive, this kind of quality, this incessant reaching out for new sounds and new ideas Apart from Paul Weller... And to be clear, whilst I have always loved Paul Weller I’ve parted company with his music as his dir...

Re: New song ‘Hetty O’Hara Confidential’, July 10, 2020

I’m not entirely convinced about this song yet though. It’s wordy and lengthy. Heh. In all honesty, 'wordy' and 'lengthy' are probably my top two criteria for a great EC song! :D At the time, I thought 'National Ransom No 2' was fantastic, but HOHC is almost like that but with a catchy riff, and it...

Re: New song ‘Hetty O’Hara Confidential’, July 10, 2020

Fantastic. Quirky, catchy tune, typically brilliant lyrics with some laugh-out-loud good rhymes. Unlike anything on Look Now but perhaps sonically reminiscent of some of WIWC? 65 and still at the top of his game, these are good times. Love it.

Re: New song "No Flag" released June 5, 2020

At about 58 minutes into Steve Nieve's recent show on Facebook, with Elvis guesting, Muriel mentions that Sebastian Krys is watching. It prompts Elvis to drop some interesting hints about what seems to be ongoing sessions involving the Look Now producer. I imagine it's some kind of internet link up...

Re: which of these two long players is MORE of a clunker?

I love the disparity in all this -- so, for example, Episode Of Blonde is terrific - and I'm trying not to rave like a man possessed with no critical faculties here - I'll never forget the start of the London Astoria gig with My Little Blue Window and the shivers that went up my spine at that momen...

Re: which of these two long players is MORE of a clunker?

I don't think either is remotely 'a clunker', but FWIW there are a lot more tracks on WIWC which I regularly listen to than there are tracks on TRIR which I regularly listen to. So, using that criterion, TRIR loses. Although I do think the title tack of TRIR is one of the best things he's ever writt...

Re: New song "No Flag" released June 5, 2020

The homemade yet aggressive sound reminded me somewhat of National Ransom No. 2 from 2011 or so. I gave it another listen and remembered thinking at the time how much I wished he’d do an album entirely like that — just him performing everything — and I wonder if we’re finally getting that now? I do...

Re: My EC mix cd

I think it's good but agree with SL in as far as you can pretty much spin a fruit machine of EC tracks, see what comes up, and get a fantastic 20-track CD out of the traps every time. I like the focus, in yours, on the darker/rowdier tracks, though. As a thought-experiment...if you had to drop five ...

Remarkable. A reminder that, at 65, he can knock it out of the park with a flick of the wrist. If this had been released in 1978 it would be a standard encore to this day.

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Eventim Olympia, Liverpool, February 28, 2020

I'm up for this, and very excited. First date of a new tour, and in Liverpool. Mrs H is a scouser and the house she grew up in is less than two miles from the venue so that's a good start. Plus all of EC's Liverpool connections - last time I saw him was at the Phil in 2016 when his Mum was there, an...
