Rope- an eloquont and thoughtful reply, one which undoubtedly puts you at the head of the pack. Sweet Pear- I am a great respecter of opinions. I am not arrogant enough to think that somehow my opinion is 'better' than someone else's. However, I do have to take issue with a couple of particular thin...

I'll take grizzled, yucky MicK Jagger's mug over some artificial crap any day. I find plastic surgery to be hideous looking. Madonna looks her age to me (a positive), although I heard recently maybe she was doing the Botox thing now.

I'm not watching it, but my friend Paul was one of 50 finalists (out of 40,000!) for the show- had he made the cut, I'd be glued to it.

Pophead and Otis are my new crushes of the hour. Brainy-looking men are sexxay! Now, if I could just keep my undying love for BlueChair a secret...any guys on the board who like black chicks...? Hmmm....black chicks, white chicks, tall chicks, short chicks, young chicks, old chicks, and most other ...

I know most here prefer 'rowdy rhythm EC' but I am truly excited about the idea of a full-fledged torch album (which, btw, was the original concept behind Almost Blue before it turned country). PFM isn't really a torch record, cause Bacharach's arrangements are always too busy for that type of strip...

I really dig KV, but I must say I'm not the most discriminating EC fan (if he releases it, I like it, etc.) KV came out when I was living in an awesome small apartment in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. I was in 'Pirate's Alley' which is right behind the Cabildo (houses the Louisiana...

Hey Rope, did you go first or second night? I was at the second night- he did a great version of Sweet Pear with a killer solo from the man himself and a really rocking version of Watch your Step. I actually have a set list from that show that some lovely roadie handed me.

Hey Cope, I saw EC and the Rude Five at the Greek on the MLAR tour back in 91 or whatever. Great venue, great sound, great show. Poppet, I think a lot of what you said is why metal 'spoke' to rural kids back then. There wasn't anything to 'do' where I grew up and so it was just kind of a group of kids sitting around. Metal always positioned itself as us against them, and the 'us' was very inclusive. Other stuff of the time (J...

Fargo Rock City

Anyone else read this little gem by Chuck Klosterman? A pitch perfect account of being a heavy metal fan in rural America during the metal-drenched 80s. I too was a wannabe metal star, although I never grew my hair or owned a single pair of leather trousers. Around 1986 my tastes 'matured' and I got...
