Re: great bands since 2003

Having finally watched the videos that so lack so kindly embedded, I think The Rakes and Pete & the Pirates are both highly enjoyable (and that one boy can cut my hair anytime), but 12 Stone Toddler is not for me. I know you've all been waiting with bated breath for my verdict...

You can get the covers on the Internet if iTunes doesn't do it for you. I don't know how to do it, but I know it can be done.

Has anybody seen The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada? Totally not what I was expecting! Of course, I didn't know anything about it, so I didn't really have any expectations at all...

WSS--Didn't the Clientele come out before 2003? Their last one is definitely worth picking up, though.

great bands since 2003

I was recently asked to name my favorite bands that have come out in the last five years. I was like, "Arcade Fire... Franz Ferdinand... Arctic Monkeys... " and hit a wall. What are some GREAT new bands that have come out in the last few years? Bloc Party and the Futureheads had excellent ...

Von O-- I wasn't thrilled with Fortress of Solitude either; I felt like nothing happened over the first half, and then lots of stuff happened, but it still felt like nothing was happening. Is that a roundabout way of saying it was boring? Maybe. I did like Motherless Brooklyn, though.

I accidentally opened a spam a couple of months ago to find a sonnet about increasing penis size! It even had the 8-line/6-line thematic division. It was not, however, written in iambic pentameter...

Re: Recently viewed films

Just so I give the great films I've seen recently their due as well: Persepolis : This was just lovely. I read the first book, and the movie really captures the sense of historical import viewed through the eyes of a child. The animation, though black and white, is terrifically complex and compellin...

I just have to warn everyone — I watched Death at a Funeral the other night, and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Not offensive, just offensively incompetent. Avoid at all costs!

I know! Mostly everyone has already seen it or hates the way that all movies about unplanned pregnancies gloss over abortion as an option. Then I try to explain to them that "Knocked Up" would have been about 20 minutes long if Katherine Heigl had gone that route (which might have actually...

I'm also trying to see all the Oscar-nominated movies, my main sticking point being that everyone I know refuses to see "Juno" with me. Harumph. I agree that the first part of "Atonement" was so much better than the rest--just much richer in terms of character and motivation, etc...
