Re: Close Up on Beyond Belief

I think it's about being famous and relating to ordinary people, or even trying to come off as being ordinary after acheiving fame.

If Elvis kncocked on your front door, wouldn't that be beyond belief?

Re: books, books, books

Has anyone here read any T. C. Boyle? I've read three of his novels this year... The Tortilla Curtain, The Women , and When the Killing's Done . He's a great writer, and I don't say that about anyone but great writers. He keeps his novels moving with a combination of inventive construction, clever p...

Ha ha!

I love it when someone asks what the favorite Elvis song is...then no one seems able to really make up their minds!

It's the mark of a true prolific genius...Elvis will live forever!

The favorite song changes with the wind, you know.

This morning, All the Rage. Right now, Needle Time. Tonight? Spin the wheel...

You have much to learn. You're still too young for some of it.

Do you sing along with Elvis? I'd like to hear an adolescent version of Shipbuilding...

Hawksmoor...

Hitler was an art student. He painted landscapes and such. These paintings still exist.

So, my question isn't so far removed from "reality". I'm just making a point about seperating the art from the artist.

Re: "They wanted facts, Facts!"

The Columbus thing seems to have been dragged up in light of the Israel decision. I do think there are elements in the media that would love to defame Elvis, and I wouldn't be surprised if someday they accomplish this. Elvis could be a flesh-eating reptile from beyond our universe. Music doesn't care.

Zoloft, anyone?

I wouldn't take any medicine that would keep me from asking such a question. The game of golf doesn't give a damn about Tiger Woods' infidelity. Elvis has his reasons for not going to Isreal. If he wants to go to Istanbul, that's his business. It might be that he's a racist, jew-hating bastard. He i...

Re: 'Sparkling Day' by Elvis on soundtrack for 'One Day' Aug

Mr. Platypus:

I do not accept that.

River in Reverse and National Ransom would be my picks.

As for Elvis' problems with "power belting", why isn't his performance on Sparkling Day more like his performance on God Give Me Strength? I know he's older, but...

Thanks, but...

Thanks for posting the song, but let's be honest. Elvis can do a lot better. This is worse than Sad About Girls. I don't get it. The lyrics are shallow, and the voice performance is awful. The only kind of wonderful thing about it is some of the orchestral quirks. How much did he get paid for this? ...

Re: Has any heard Miss Macbeth live ?

If I recall correctly, I witnessed a performance of the song at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California. It was the Comeback in a Million Years tour with the Rude 5. Elvis made a bit of berformance humor in trying to find the triangle for the ending ding. I can't say I remember much about the even...

Re: Radio Silence

A favorite of mine, as well...but the bass line is so deep my speakers pop. This song harkens back to Radio Radio , "such a lot of fools trying to anethetize the way that you feel". Elvis never could really conform enough to make it on pop radio. The corporate control is complete, "yo...

Failure schmailure

Elvis gets to do what he wants. That's success by any measure.

Not a Top 40 smash? Who wants to be part of that crap?

Elvis is above it.

It's just awful that I couldn't make the St. Louis show.

Just awful.

Re: "This isn't confession. This is pop music" re:Brutal You

It was during that short time I lived in Omaha. I drove every inch of that state and most of Iowa. I tuned to a local college station out of Lincoln...they were having some sort of excitment about Brutal Youth , and selling Elvis as some sort of alternative Bob Dylan. I'm afraid that when they playe...

Gee whiz, Poor D...why's it got to be political? American Gangster Time is more about bashing gangsters who abuse women that it is about bashing America per se. Of course, in America, the radio waves are chock full of "I wanna be a criminal" musical delights, with no shortage of desperate ...
