Re: Happy Birthday Sulky Lad

Thanks everyone,
down to Devon for the weekend to see my father and uncle, anticipating the Tavistock Goose Fair (only I was out by a week!) Nonetheless, a wonderful time with Mrs. Sulky (no pun intended), saw my first kingfisher in 51 years skimming over the River Tavy - truly unforgettable !

Can anyone beat this record - it took me up to 24 seconds in before I realised John was singing "I Saw her Standing There ".
Now this is more of a butchers than the original rare Beatles sleeve !

Re: Elvis/Sugarcanes play Tulsa, Sept. 3 '09

I had been planning to attend the two Texas shows and finish off my mini-tour of the deep South with this show and, having been thwarted by my bosses  and been unable to cross the Atlantic, I'm desperate for recordings to rub in what I've missed. Austin was terrific and Grand Prairie seemed...

Many Happy returns, EC - if only you could bring yourself (and The Sugarcanes) to make happy returns to the UK.
And no, I'm not going to Texas next week now due to my b*****d boss who found various ways to thwart my leave application !

Re: Live At The El Mocambo to be re-released

So what live sets would we like to hear ?? For me, the complete Hollywood High from June 1978, the 1979 show when he dedicates Radio Radio to the radio station promoting the show (St Louis was it ?) any of the UK 1980 shows preferably somewhere really off the beaten track like Hastings (where he app...

Re: London Meet Up - Saturday 1st August

John must have really drank too much as there was actually Paul, Dave, David and Verbal there - but a wonderful time was had by all (or at least by me) even if I missed Verbal's sublime Almost Glue joke. Afternoon like yesterday almost make up for my boss refusing my application for annual leave to ...

Re: The Open/Tom Watson

Silly story really but I used to work in Truro, Cornwall and a few of us used to regularly play at the "pitch and putt" course near Watergate Bay. It was fantastic leaving work at 5 pm and then playing ofr a couple of hours in the middle of fantastic scenery and bracing fresh Atlantic air....

Judging by alexv's post "Lennon's worst is worse than McCartney's worst - discuss" There are enough Harrison songs for me to put them in the 90 percentile also my bete noires include Within You Without You Love You Too Act Naturally (yes I know they didn't actually write this) The Word Yel...

Re: EC's Discography: Top to Bottom

Yeh, I probably feel more guilty about ignoring Veronica and I adore Deep Dark Truthful Mirror (as I can play a very shaky version on the piano) but the "bad" songs drag the album down heavily for me (IMHO Let him Dangle, God's Comic, Chewing Gum,Satellite, Pads Paws And Claws, Baby Plays ...

Re: EC's Discography: Top to Bottom

I suppose my introduction to Elvis was always going to have an influence on tastes and playing bass means I favour the early albums for the ingenuity of many of Bruce's best lines. For example, I wore out my freebie single from Armed Forces and had to resort to a record fair (remember those|) to get...

Re: Elvis in London, July 1996

I saw all the London shows that summer, winning a competition for the last Roundhouse gig in a Mean Fiddler quiz and selling my ticket at the door for £10 so I could buy a Lost Dog tee shirt (and it still fits - good job I bought XXL  ) I'd be very interested in getting recordings of any of the...

God's Comic x20 Every live version with a chat in between with comments about "God on a water bed filled with tropical fish, 2 of every kind and on and on " and what's even more depressing, he might just turn Sulphur To Sugarcane into the same sort of song. If he never plays God Comic live...

Re: Best EC Album of the Past 10 years

Elvis used to relate to his British heritage and now he takes every opportunity to have a dig at us. Is it any wonder his sales have dropped when he doesn't even bother to tour here to any reasonable level. I guess he doesn't care about such slim pickings when the dollars are rolling in. from Jacks...
