Re: For More Tears mp3

A cracker. Would love to hear a band arrangement of this - it's crying out for a bit of piano, if you'll pardon the pun.

Re: Income from Touring

I have no idea really, and couldn't begin to suggest any actual figures, but I do have a personal theory that most artists these days make a hell of a lot more from playing live than (a) they used to and (b) they make from recording music. Back in the good old days when I was a lad and it was all fi...

Re: The Return Of The Imposter: National Ransom No.2

Back to the song itself-- it's fascinating to me how divergent the reactions to it are, simply because it's SO subjective and mysterious. I mean, I think my least favorite Costello song might be "The Long Division" off of Painted From Memory-- it just always seemed like a particularly wea...

Re: The Return Of The Imposter: National Ransom No.2

I will never understand the general antipathy towards NR #1. I just don't get it. It's a really terrific opening track that sounds like the smartest track The Traveling Wilburys never wrote. Yet it's probably sparked as much dislike among EC fans as any track I can remember. Agree, I also find this...

Re: National Ransom, We Hardly Knew Ye

As for his not making albums anymore, I don't pretend to understand the financial aspects of the biz, but I suspect that as long as there are viable record companies EC will have the option of cutting an album. If he chooses to go into a snit and not exercise the option, that's his business. But it...

Re: Reissue catalogue in a mess?

From a recent interview - * Costello isn’t entirely happy with Universal’s decision to release several live albums, including Live at Hollywood High and Live at the El Mocambo, both recorded in 1978. "There's a bewildering amount of records with my name on them out there. They keep releasing a...

Re: Later with Jools Holland 29-10-10

It was a really great show tonight, with McCartney doing superb versions of "Jet" and "Band on the Run" to promote the re-release of that album. Neil Diamond did a nice acoustic band version of "I'm A Believer" and then Elvis, with just his guitar and a friend on doubl...

I've pre-ordered to obtain it, but I'm assuming it'll just be a download - although hopefully there'll be cute bit of cover art or whatever with it, which you can download and print off if you wanna make yourself a physical CD copy?

Wow - Elvis in UK radio play shock. It might have been just before half past five on a Monday morning but it's better than nothing!
And it's described as 'his brand new single'? Interesting.

Re: DVD: A Case for Song

Am I the only one who noticed EC launching into a seemingly-impromptu version of "Complicated Shadows" and directing it at Bruce Thomas right after Bruce almost ruined an otherwise brilliant version of "Man Out of Time" with that horrible, jumpy bass riff at the end? A pity, bec...

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

So Five Small Words is the single, eh? Interesting. I find it even more interesting that the word "single" is used. Is there some kind of definition? It's a pretty vague definition these days, isn't it? The 20th century concept of a single (a track from the LP that was given a physical re...

Re: Pomp & Pout: Best of The Universal Years , July 13 '10

I don't suppose there's any chance that 'In Another Room' might be a fully-produced studio version rather than the out-take we already have? Great though it is, it has a slightly rough-hewn/unfinished feel. I'd love to hear a full-band or even orchestrated version.

Re: The Top 25

Well, on the whole, I believe pop music isn't as good as it was in the period roughly 65 - 75. That's the peak, and it's been up and down since then, never quite reaching the same height. The 80s was easily the nadir. Interesting. See, for me, it's the late 1970s and (very) early 1980s (OK, that's ...

The RAH is likely (but not certain) to be the January 1982 concert/s recorded for a possible live LP at the t...
