Also up on iTunes for pre-order now. 'Magnificent Hurt' is available to download now for the princely sum of 99p (although 'Farewell OK', its supposed B-side, is not).

Re: Magnificent Hurt coming October 27, 2021

So is the single going to be a physical release or digital only? My hunch would be digital only, and similar for the next two or three 'singles' which drop before the LP. Then, a few weeks after the LP, an exclusive opportunity to buy a box-set of seven-inch singles in picture sleeves, with some re...

Meet up in the North?

I get occasional invitations to meet-ups in London. It's a bit of a trek for me, and almost certainly involves an expensive train journey and overnight accommodation. So while I really appreciate the invitations (and am planning to try and make it to the next one), I also wonder whether there's any ...

Excellent news, and good spotting, everyone! Nothing flickering on iTunes or Amazon yet, but if the cover art is already out there, suggests we might be getting the LP this year rather than 2022? January 14, 2022. Good to get a definite date. Would have liked it before Christmas, but there we go. I...

Re: Magnificent Hurt coming October 27, 2021

well, now comes my own trial. after about a year of utter, weird off-put about e.c., something new, maybe. been a strange time, to fall out of a long-lasting love. what to do, what to do? listen, i hope. and again, i've said it before, i'd buy a book of his art. If it doesn't sound patronising. I t...

Fantastic review. With the tiny pedantic caveat that, of course, Elvis has recorded 'I Hope'! :)

Re: Hello Again 2021 tour overview

Nick’s original version of “Truth Drug”: https://youtu.be/DVcXoAIMD8k And always a pleasure to hear it. Because of its fairly obscure release, 'Keep It Out of Sight'/'Truth Drug' rarely gets much of a look-in on Nick Lowe compilations or box-sets, which is a shame as it's a cracking little single a...

Re: Almost Blue

At a loose end this afternoon, I fancy I might make myself a little EP of 'EC title tracks that technically, aren't'. I could have John McCormack's 'Mighty Like a Rose', Squeeze's 'Trust', 'Get Happy' (the Ella Fitzgerald version?), and...anything else that would fit, thematically?

Re: Elvis on BBC Sounds, November 11, 2021

I listened again and the radiohost said that there will be “live music” from Elvis Costello on November 11. He didn’t say that Elvis would be live in the studio. Maybe it is pre-recorded? I don't suppose there's any chance they're going to try and livestream from San Diego? People more technically ...

On the other hand, as we know he is playing in San Diego on the 11th and playing the RAH on the 18th, we can probably say with some confidence that he will be flying to London at some point between the 12th and the 17th. :)

Re: Elvis at Royal Variety Performance, November 18, 2021

A career low point, I think. What next? Celebrity Masterchef? Dancing on Ice? I admit I shared this view, however a quick decco at the website tells a different tale and perhaps one which explains our ( previously loudly anti-Royalist ) hero's participation : The Royal Variety Charity stems from 19...

Re: Hello Again 2021 tour overview

Yeah, v excited to hear this album. I am a bit flummoxed by the strangeness of the 'Farewell, Okay' hook line - I mean, what does it actually mean , 'farewell okay'? I think I hear it as a kind of of resignation to the fact that it's over, as in 'OK, we're done here now'. Like when you're having an...

Re: Hello Again 2021 tour overview

Sounds like I'm gonna like it - I really liked 'Go Away'. 'Farewell Okay' is a fun barnstormer, but because it's so (deliberately) reminiscent of Hippy Hippy Shake, it feels a bit like a throwaway B-side, a bit like Baby's Got A Brand New Hairdo (which I happen to LOVE!). Nowt wrong with throwaway ...

Re: Hello Again 2021 tour overview

Thanks, Hawksmoor. I tried to listen to Magical Thinking but sound quality wasn't great. What style is Magnificent Hurt? It's full on rock'n'roll, in a similar vein to 'Farewell OK' and not a million miles from 'Go Away'. In my view it's got a much stronger tune than 'Go Away' (which is a good way ...

Where have you heard these news songs, BTW? Are they on YouTube?! I've only heard 'Farewell OK' (the official release from last December), 'Magnificent Hurt' (recorded on my phone by holding it up to the speakers!) and 'The Death of Magic Thinking'. The latter can be found on the EC Wiki - if you g...

I hope this is the right place to post this, as several new songs are getting an airing, and one or two audience recordings are sneaking out. Re: Interview + new single on WEVL FM in Memphis, October 12, 2021

My copy was acquired by listening to the whole show and holding my phone up to the speakers when the song was on. It's a bit rough-and-ready in terms of sound quality, but I quite like that. Like the old days, when your favourite band had a a new single coming up, and you'd record it off the John Pe...

Agree with all of that. Re: Bruce Thomas interview on Caropop.com

I'm sure I remember Elvis saying something like (I'm paraphrasing from memory here): 'he can call me whatever he likes - we all behaved badly from time to time, I'm sure. But what saddens me is to learn, years later, that for all those years we were on the road, that he wasn't having a great time. B...

Re: Bruce Thomas interview on Caropop.com

Listened to the Bruce interview, and as usual, he’s more than just a tad dismissive (of Davey’s bass playing... Davey's a fine bass player and a great musician - and he brings live backing vocals to the table, which is something the Attractions could never provide. But he's a conventional bass play...

Excellent, thank-you. The melody for the verses sounds faintly reminiscent of the verses of 'Home is Anywhere You Hang Your Head'? Which is no bad thing, of course.
