Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Am I the only one to be singularly underwhelmed by Under Lime ? A meandering wandering non- tune with lyrics trying too hard to tie in with the breath taking song that is Jimmie. Sulky, I thought it was a shambles on first listen, but it's definitely a grower! It took me a while, if honest. I excit...

Re: Sequel songs

Yes, there's a sequel to 'American Without Tears', called 'American Without Tears (Twilight Version)'. It's got the same melody, but a very different arrangement and lyrics. Agree. It's a bit cryptic, but I always thought the lyrics of the 'twilight' version were about how their lives had worked ou...

Sequel songs

OK, so we've now worked out (from the lyrics, and from occasional EC comments) that 'Under Lime' is a (possibly pretty loose) sequel to 'Jimmie Standing in the Rain'. Which got me thinking: are there any other songs in Elvis' oeuvre which are direct (or even indirect) sequels to other songs he's wri...

Re: Help needed securing coverage of Elvis from 1990s/'00s.

Thanks. Both link fine for me. I'll pass on your comment. I've had a busy time of it lately and have let this slide, sorry. No worries. When I click on the 'more details' tab, McAfee says (of the Wiki) 'We scanned this site and found that it’s not as secure as it should be. Please click with cautio...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Definitely excited about this new album, but the above Elvis quote isn't apparent in the mix of the two new preview tracks. Steve's always glorious fills are massively, puzzlingly low in the mix, when they could shine and enhance the vocal, without undermining it. Agree 100%. I hope Elvis isn't som...

Re: Help needed securing coverage of Elvis from 1990s/'00s.

John, at the moment, both the (presumably archived) site you've linked to, and the EC Wiki itself, are both being blocked for me by McAfee who are deeming them both to be 'VERY RISKY'. Is that a common issue across both sites at the moment?

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Wow, these two tracks sound amazing! Seconded. I get Elvis' point about 'rock' in his tweets, but that really has little to do with this LP and more to do with his longstanding chip-on-the-shoulder about the definition of 'rock' music (and how he, according to his own definition, sits outside it). ...

Re: Elvis and The Imposters plays Manchester Castlefields, July 6 2018

My refund went through yesterday which is better than I expected and more significantly, much quicker than my refund for the Plymouth Pavilions show (which still hasn't appeared) - and to cap it all, I expect Mrs Sulky will now expect me to show her an equally good time doing something other than s...

Re: Elvis and the Imposters European Tour 2018

So, it is as we probably feared but were afraid to name. However, it does sound very positive in terms of it having been dealt with, and hopefully some rest and recuperation will see him back to full health. Disappointment at cancelled gigs obviously pales into insignificance at this news, and I'm s...

Re: Elvis and The Imposters plays Manchester Castlefields, July 6 2018

After the cancellation of Dalhalla and Pula, I think the European tour will end after the gigs in Austria. Well, it definitely will, because other than the (now cancelled) Dalhalla and Pula dates, the Austrian dates were the only ones left on the tour anyway. He's tweeted that full explanation will...

15 days? They're bastards aren't they? Bet it didn't take them 15 days to take your money when you booked. 15 seconds, more like. I did speak to someone yesterday who had their refund already so hopefully i will get mine in the next few days I'm with ticketline for these, and they're telling me 3-5...

Re: Elvis and the Imposters European Tour 2018

I figured he had to be somewhat popular in the UK, but yes, Neil, i do not know of him. You should check out some of the Beautiful South albums--they're very good, with a nice combination of toe-tapping tunes and cynical lyrics. Welcome to the Beautiful South and 0898 are a couple of my favorites. ...

Re: Elvis and the Imposters European Tour 2018

This sounds bad ... real bad ... :( I dunno, it's hard to tell. Yeah, quite likely the Austrian/Norwegian dates will be the last of the tour, but they would have been anyway (barring one final gig in Sweden, which has also been cancelled). If he goes ahead and plays the dates he hasn't so far cance...

Not wanting to get to ahead of things, but I hope there is a contingency plan should a clash with an important football match arise. Should Eng-er-land win their group and their next knockout match they could be facing Germany again  at 7pm that night. Panic over, as neither of those things ...

Slightly surprised by the various suggestions of 'I'll Wear It Proudly'. I mean, I love it, and it can reduce me to tears, but if we're regarding those lyrics as 'an expression of pure joy', we're all in big trouble. :D

Re: Elvis and The Imposters, Nocturne Live - Oxfordshire (UK), June 16, 2018

Whilst the "two for one" doesn't bode well in terms of overall sales, at least it suggests Elvis will have recovered enough to perform at all the other shows. He seems to have managed a corporate (and I imagine, very well-paid) gig on 4th May without collapsing, so the indications are goo...

Re: Big Issue interview , May 2018

But, for example, Paul Weller's 'You're The Best Thing That Ever Happened' is a straightforward joyous love song. Is there such a song in Elvis's catalogue? There must be, surely? 'Lovable'? 'Sweet Pear'? 'My Three Sons'? Even 'Slow Drag' has references to some amusing/problematic aspects of a rela...

I think this is a lovely interview, and makes me like Elvis (as a person) more than I have for a long time. I've always believed (and still do) that he is the single greatest performer/singer-songwriter of our generation, but everything I had seen, heard or read, for decades now really, had made me ...

Re: Pills and Soap post 2001 lyrics?

I'm not so convinced about the reason for the change. I'd never read 'Lord and Lady Muck' as referring specifically to Charles and Diana, I assumed it was simply a reference to the photo-shoots of the royalty/aristocracy generally, which are designed to divert our attention from what the rich and pr...
