RIP Ross Hannaford

This is late (he passed over a week ago), but Ross Hannaford who was one of the true originals on the Oz music scene has been lost to cancer. His playing credits include Daddy Cool, Billy-T, Paul Madigan & the Humans and busking in the streets of our town (Melbourne). His guitar playing was subl...

Re: Recently viewed films

I rarely get to the movies, so most of my film viewing is on delay until they become available on BluRay. I have a few that go on regular rotation now, including Intouchable, The Extravagent Voyage of the Young and Prodigious T S Spivett, St Vincent, any number of Wes Anderson films and Birdman (whi...

Yet another is gone... this time in unnecessarily tragic circumstances. Greg Ham, flautist from Men at Work was found dead at his home last Thursday. http://www.smh.com.au/victoria/greg-ham-found-dead-in-house-20120419-1x93x.html http://www.smh.com.au/photogallery/national/men-at-works-greg-ham-2012...

Vale Jimmy Niven (keyboardist with the Sports)

Haven't posted here for a long time, and a shame it has to be for such a sad reason, but for anyone familiar with the Australian band The Sports, their keyboard player Jim Niven passed away at 10am yesterday (9th April) as a result of cancer; The Sports toured the UK with EC in the 80's. I was fortu...

Re: Recently viewed films

I saw the previews for Rango and thought it was one of the least-appealing movies I'd ever seen - I'll netflix that puppy now, Tim(e). And I also have True Grit in my shopping cart at Amazon. We're almost leading parallel lives.  Do it Moody, I'm almost certain you won't be disappointed....

Re: Recently viewed films

Recently saw True Grit on a flight from Sydney to L.A and liked it a lot (considering it was on a screen the size of a small book) - will definitely be purchasing the blu ray when it's available. Also took my son to see Rango and was very pleasantly surprised... loved the references to other Depp fi...

Ebay heads-up: EC Live at the El Mocombo LP for sale

I'm hoping this doesn't contravene forum rules - reading the rules post I couldn't work out whether providing a link to an auction of a rarish EC album was a no no... if it does contravene the rules then I do apologise and ask you to please remove. Just thought that I would give a shameless plug to ...

When my daughter spent some time in Tokyo a few years back with family she really enjoyed the Miyazaki Museum- she still talks about it to this day. Yes, I've been to the Ghibli Museum three times with my sons and we have all loved it... especially the short films they show that Miyazaki has made t...

Re: Recently viewed films

invis - you nailed it. Toy Story 3, wow, was the best movie I have seen in a long time. Best of the Toy Story trilogy, by far. I cried . . .and I laughed. Never has an animated movie done that. Completely unexpected. Agree... a very very good film and easily the best of the three. My kids took a li...

Re: IPad

If you have an iPhone, rather than paying the extra for a 3G iPad, shouldn't you be able to use tethering to provide 3G access to the iPad via the iPhone? Would allow you to save a lot of money on the device as well as remove the need for a second access plan.

I'm surprised I haven't heard Pump It Up with Subterranean Homesick Blues and Wild Wild West by the Escape Club.

There is a mash-up of Pump it Up and Subterranean Homesick Blues.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I have been listening to Middle Cyclone, but find it a little too samey to be able to get overly excited by it (that is not to say it isn't a great album). However, I have been putting my recently acquired Nokia 5800 "music" phone through its paces with the aid of Kasey Chambers & Shan...

Re: books, books, books

Reading Haruki Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle at the moment. Definitely intriguing. I loved that book... my wish is that he team up with David Lynch to bring it to the screen. If you haven't read it already and you enjoy that, check out Kafka on the Shore. Also, for a great insight into the ...

Re: Sound Relief... dual concerts and big band re-formations

More importantly? But that's all really old stuff (except The Presets). Who needs a nostalgia trip... The more importantly was probably a bad choice of words as I was using it in relation to those re-formed acts as opposed to Coldplay and The Kings of Leon. However, having said that, I actually tho...

Sound Relief... dual concerts and big band re-formations

Two concerts going under the banner of Sound Relief were held last weekend to raise money for victims of both the Victorian bushfires and the Queensland floods where substantial loss of property (not to mention life) was sustained. These concerts were held concurre...

Re: Natural and Not So Natural Disaster - Spare a Thought...

The stories are truly horrendous, and my thoughts very much with those affected. What I haven't heard in the stories is whether it's believed some were started deliberately because of evidence or suspicious circumstances, or simply because 15% of fires are started by 'firebugs'. Apparently they wer...

Shocked! Saw him two or three times over 1974/1975... my first experience of him at the Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park is still etched in my mind as one of the greatest concerts I was fortunate enough to attend - that one man could create such sounds with just an acoustic guitar, an echoplex a fuz...
