Re: Random Thoughts

Not sure it's cause for celebration just yet, but apparently I have a job offer coming my way from the parent company of one of Canada's main national TV networks.

Re: President Palin?

I prefer the sort of chutzpah that makes you want to make the world/country a better place, not the sort of chutzpah that involves overturning Roe v. Wade, teaching creationism in public schools and "rhetorically" asking the local librarian how to go about banning books.

Re: Recently viewed films

the Toronto International Film Festival started last night, and Red and I have tickets for five films over the next seven days. Tonight we're going to see Me and Orson Welles , directed by Richard Linklater ( Dazed and Confused , Before Sunrise , etc.) and starring Ben Chaplin, Claire Danes, Christi...

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime

I would argue that Barack Obama's middle name is about as insignificant, and yet many right-wing pundits and conservative voters (and even some Hillary supporters!) are still using it as one of their main reasons for not wanting to vote for him.

I forgot about that! Actually, let me take back what I said... Palin would make a great VP!

Re: President Palin?

I'm pretty sure they don't let dumbasses run the Harvard Law Review. Also, didn't Obama say something along the lines of that he'd fire anyone in his campaign who tries to drag candidates' families into the mud? We're not in his campaign so I have no problem pointing out the hypocrisy of the Republi...

Re: New Gig Thread

Just got back from a great trip to Massachusetts, one of the highlights being the Tanglewood Jazz Festival on Saturday night. I was so impressed by Donal Fox's opening set that I actually bought his CD on the spot. Great mix of jazz-meets-classical. The main act was Dianne Reeves, who was also quite...

Re: New Gig Thread

Just got back from the Squeeze show, featuring the sublime Aimee Mann as support. Ron Sexsmith was there. In fact, he walked in just before us. He did not perform, though. I also didn't tell him how awesome he is, but he was among friends so I didn't want to embarrass him. Aimee Mann's opening set w...

Re: How I Spent My Summer Vacation

What vacation? :D Actually, in terms of content I don't have much to complain about this summer. In June, Red & I spent some time in California; in July, we celebrated my sister's wedding; and in August we celebrated our own wedding anniversary and got to spend some time at the cottage. We've se...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I'm just amazed I haven't caught on earlier. I'd heard the name floated around, particularly in our T Bone Burnett thread, but only recently decided to finally give her a listen. It looks like she also does a lot of great covers in her concerts... many of them available on YouTube... "Creep&quo...
