I finally had some extra cash & bought: Bob Pollard - From A Compund Eye Adam Arcuragi - s/t Editors - Back Room (poor man's Interpol, but 3 or 4 great songs, worth the $9.99 at best Buy) Arctic Monkeys - also 9.99 at Best Buy, usually I love these overhyped albums, they typically have 2 or 3 gr...

"I Turn My Camera On" - Spoon Ah, you warm my heart. Spoon, like the Decemberists, are one of the bands I got to see early on and were my Band Of Destiny - the band you catch early on before a lot of people and just KNOW they're gonna get big. I saw them open for GBV 4 or 5 different time...

Girlfriend is a must, one of the best records of the 90s. Altered Beast may not be great the whole way through but has a few amazing song, esp Someone To Pull The Trigger and Time Capsule. i'm still buzzing from seeing him this weekend. Girlfriend was a huge record for me, since I saw the video for ...

I pulled down Art Brut from emusic, loved it. might be a little bit of a novelty, but Good Weekend is fantastic, as is Emily Kane, and Formed A Band and Rusted Guns is really funny. Maybe the joke will wear off, but fun. I've been really getting into the Editors, the CD came out today, but thanks to...

among a ton of other bands, I saw Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs twice at SXSW. The free day show was good but short, and they were so good we had to see them again. Got right on top of the stage, 2 feet from Sweet. He's really packed on the pounds. Hoffs looks amazing and is about 4 foot 3. Tigh...

presale tickets

I ordered the Houston show (for April) back in November. When will they ship? I seem to remember last year's March show shipping a lot earlier.

I was at SXSW and heard no rumors of Elvis there at all. And rumors fly in Austin all the time during SXSW.

exactly, any list without Sleepwalk is hard to take seriously. And I also like Memphis Soul Stew and cheesy, but Soulful Strut. And Pick Up the Pieces

Spoiler !!!!! Just heard another song from the album, Dear God Please Help Me, and I'm not impressed at all. Too long, too bland, too maudlin. Strings may save it from oblivion and, who knows, maybe the song will grow on me but for now I don't like it. If you want to hear it go to the same blog as ...

Wow, the premier?! Very cool. I'm relatively new to the list so I hadn't heard the tale. I guess I'm just confused then why it seems to get the short shrift (like in the Mojo piece about his albums). Amazon has almost universal raves with the 2 thumbs down saying "it doesn't work". Some of...

one of my eternal regrets is not seeing EC with the Brodskys. I don't think he came to Texas that tour.

I also really enjoy the Brodskys work with Bjork. Supposedly she played I Almost Had A Weakness with them live, but I've enver heard a bootleg of it.

after listening to that, DSFW definitely makes sense. still, I like my interpretation! found the lyrics online, and this album keeps growing for me. I'd like an argument from The Juliet Letters haters why they don't like it. Over the top for you? Strings = Pretentious? Here's another lyric that stan...

The Juliet Letters, and especially The Letter Home

It seems to me this album ranks really low to most Costello fans, but I've always loved it. When Rhino announced the reissues, I sold all the old ones, and hadn't heard this in forever. A friend just burned me a copy, and I still don't get the hate. So I was listening to this on the way to work this...

re: Built to Spill I absolutely love that album. I was big into Guided By Voices and indie rock at the time, and into the less is more idea. BtS was the first indie guitar hero thing I found, and was blown away by it. He's not a wanker solo player either, at least on that CD, he just layers them as ...

I hate Wilco, and absolutely love Sufjan's Illinois. While John Wayne gacy grabs you first, I find Casimir Pulaski Day is the real highlight. I could write 5000 words on how the lyrics are poetry, the lines he chooses to repeat, how he paints a complete picture like a movie with an economy of words,...
