Was it a millionaire who said "imagine no possessions" Not sure that was so much a pun but rather a direct dig at John Lennon? Here's one of my favorites: "And don't try to read my mind Because it's full of disappearing ink." - All the Rage This actually leads me to think of a d...

Maybe a bit too obvious...

First and foremost: as I posted previously, I think it's wonderful that younger people (than me) are discovering Elvis C and that his fan base is not just graying, balding people like myself. But on the other hand, it's kind of hard for me to take when I read that someone listened to Imperial Bedroo...

It would be impossible to pick one best song from this classic album. Red Shoes and Alison are undoubtably great songs, but personally I've grown to dislike (relative to other EC songs) them because they're so overplayed and especially shouts of "Alison!" at concerts tends to personify the...

Well put, Mr. Average. And to put it a different way, I would advise Elvis that not every person in the room who loves his music agrees with his politics. So as a musician you mold your politics into your music and let the music speak for itself. When you start taking silly potshots you just look li...

From Steve's online journal about the Chicago show....gosh, I'm flattered for my hometown to be compared to Lyon, France. Also, it's rich that he says Elvis handled the heckler in "exemplary" fashion! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The final gig of the tour was a mixed affair, with a bout of heckl...

It sure feels strange to be an old-timer. I'm 40 years old and have been an Elvis worshipper for MORE THAN HALF OF MY LIFE...from the moment I first heard Armed Forces upon its original release (to save you from doing the math, I was 17). Sometimes, as I cruise through MTV-land, Rolling Stone magazi...

That's why I said earlier in this thread: I fear that Elvis will become more pedestrian if he continues to be more outspoken in this manner on politics. He does not seem to have original or insightful views, just an ability to zap liberals' raw nerves. On the other hand, when he channels his energie...

There may be good songs buried beneath poor arrangements and obnoxious production, but you wouldn't know that if we didn't hear the stripped down version of 'The Comedians', etc. . That is an absolutely valid point: if Roy Orbison hadn't NAILED The Comedians, I likely never would have gone back to ...

Don't underestimate GCW! There are indeed some gems on that album that are not really presented in the best arrangements. I remember hearing "I Wanna Be Loved" when EC toured for the album, and the stripped down live version was a wonderful plaintive-plea ballad--a peek into his torch song...

I'm shocked that SULKY GIRL didn't make the list? :?:

That's MY favorite EC song.

If you are teaching all sorts of uses of language as poetry (not necessarily just imagery), then I'd go right to Get Happy!! ... Elvis's rhyme & pun work are so brilliant on that album, I'm just in awe whenever I read through those lyrics. I mean right off the bat, you get this great stanze open...

I can sympathize with cbartal, to a certain extent. When EC spends a career pretty much letting his music and lyrics speak for themselves, and then starts launching into political diatribes from the stage, it an be upsetting if you happen to disagree with his politics -- envigorating if you happen t...
