Thrilled to see Possession back as a regular fixture in setlists for the first time since 83, Just found this chaotic version from April 1980. New to me.

Re: Do you have a favorite EC concert?
My favourite EC concert was organised in little more than a day or two - a benefit show for the National Union of Seamen in Aberdeen's Music Hall in the spring of 1988. The performers had all played at that year's Shetland Folk Festival but were marooned off of mainland Scotland due to a strike by f...

Re: Elvis song taught at 'O'-level?
Hi. An EC lyric from You'll Never Be a Man (first 2 lines) was used as an exam question prompt for a Scottish Higher English exam. Year before me, so 1983 I think.
I've used Shipbuilding in lessons - imagine it's quite a common choice.

EC was playing it on guitar in the 86/87 shows: a few performances must be out there.

Sorry for the drip feed. Indoor Fireworks was beautiful, despite Elvis forgetiing lyrics. And (imagine my outrage) there was NO Psycho!

Re: Elvis Solo, Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, Sat. 18 March, 2017
Other highlights were Deep Dark Truthful Mirror , Blood & Hot Sauce , Face in the Crowd & Viceroy's Row - the piano numbers were barnstorming. Elvis sang superbly on the bluesier songs but seemed to struggle at other times - I sometimes couldn't quite make out the melody in 1 or 2 of the new...

It's good to see some love for Party Party.
For me, Tramp the Dirt Down is an insufferable dirge. I lived through Thatcherism and expect even worse with Bojo having into view, but this song never rises above leaden.

After the final reckoning this morning, Elvis would be missing a trick not opening with 45 - would resonate with most of the locals.

For te occasion of Elvis' sixtieth birthday, listeners of Belgian radio 1 were asked for their favorite 3 Elvis-tracks. Apparently the response was massive. Based on all contributions, the following tot 15 was compiled. It was broadcast yesterday evening on our national radio. http://www.radio1.be/...

Re: EC etc 'Free Nelson Mandela' ...
Thanks for youtube link - an impassioned performance which I remember watching at the time as a lanky, spotty, teenage geek - brings back 'happy' memories. (I met my partner at the site where this was filmed - Tyne Tees / Egypt Cottage, Newcastle - demolished years ago.) Read an interview with Jerry...

I'm on 0. The snippets I've picked up here in the UK: setlists, youtubes, dimesamples - have been truly moving. A mighty heart & mighty songs. Even more so as he's battled and coaxed his voice and fingers into doing some justice to these things. Fuck the numbers, fun though it is to count and co...

I'll have to post Nick Kent's KOA review in pieces. Apologies if I screw this up. It may be best if I leave it for admin to upload.

1986 KOA NME & Melody Maker clippings
Have sent these scraps on to John but thought that they'd sit nicely together in a single post. All date from 1986. The main piece is Nick Kent's MM review of KOA but there's an entertaining trio sparked off by Danny Kelly's ' Choker of the Week ' NME review of ' Misunderstood ' which includes a pri...

Shipbuilding wanted by Boyle for Olympics opening ceremony
Anyone else read the interview with Danny Boyle in yesterday's Guardian Weekend magazine? Boyle wanted to use Shipbuilding to help tell the tale of Britain's industrial past but EC refused any involvement. I was cynical before the Games but Boyle & Cottrell Boyce delivered something which still ...

Re: "Suffering Face"
I'm a little bit drunk but still just about able to type. I've always enjoyed the threads on particular songs which crop up from time to time and have kept an eye open on this one since it appeared. My inability to hit 'return' while drammed has saved me before but I've taken things a little easier ...

Burnt Sugar for me, but difficult to place it on WIWC. PFM a better fit, but I may be getting confused about when it was written. The pre-Delivery Man live versions didnt really work. A beautiful song. Sorry for stacatto sentences, really tired.

Re: Elvis plays Istanbul, Nov. 2 2011
Rachel and rsternb1 are clearly hurt by the seeming contradiction in not playing in one country and playing in another, given the 'politics' involved in each decision. I just would like to see the conversation kept to a civil discussion, minus the vitriol and name calling. I think it is an importan...
